Arizona School Health Guidelines Manual for Registered Nurses

The Arizona School Health Guidelines Manual Committee was formed in 1986 under the direction of Bette L. Denlinger, RN, BS, MA., Arizona School Health Consultant, Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS).   The goal was to revise the old Arizona School Health Guidelines published in 1974.  Eight school nurses were on the committee and they each developed one or two sections.  The sections were then reviewed by experts in the field and submitted to the ADHS for final revisions.

Bette moved from ADHS to the Arizona Department of Education in 1992 as the School Health Specialist.  The Manual  moved with Bette and eleven additional sections were written and printed between 1994 and 1996.

In 1995 the Arizona School Nurse Task Force, now known as the Arizona School Nurse Consortium,  took over writing and distribution of the Manual.

The Manual utilizes the nursing process format - rationale, structure criteria, process criteria and outcome criteria.  It has been written only for registered nurses and is not intended for schools that do not employ a registered nurse.

The Manual is updated by school nurses and reviewed by experts in the appropriate field.
